She graduated from Newcastle Polytechnic in 1991. She studied art and painting and reached India the following year where she met her future husband, artist Subodh Gupta. Then they got married and permanently settled in Delhi. The couple had two children. In 1995, her eyes caught a lady wearing a snake shaped bindi. After knowing from her, from where she bought that bindi Kher moved straight to that shopkeeper and bought all the stock he had. She used all the pieces for her art work and they got clicked. Since then, Bindis have become Kher’s signature. She created Symphony, a digital artwork about Bindi at 2012.
