Besant Ravi Biography

Besant Ravi is an actor and stunt choreographer associated with Bollywood and Tamil cinema. He has played negative roles in numerous Hindi and Tamil films. Associated with film industry for more than two decades, he has also worked in Malayalam, Bengali and Kannada projects. He made his Bollywood debut in 2011 with Rohit Shetty’s Singham and is best known for the same director’s 2012 comedy film, Chennai Express where he essayed the role of Periya Anna. He was seen in Tamil blockbusters like Mudhalvan, Khushi, Saamy, Dum, Thenkasi Pattanam, Singham, Kakki Sattai etc.

He was born in Chennai in 1970. Since childhood he watched several film shootings filmed at Besant Nagar in his neighbourhood. He was a mechanic by profession before he forayed to films in the mid-1990s. He was familiar with many technicians from filmy world and his expertise in Martial arts and boxing opened him doors to film world. He made his film debut with 1995 film, Lucky Man where he played a solo stunt. Since then he performed stunt scenes for many movies belonging to different languages.

Later he started his career as a stunt master and also did action choreography for several Tamil films. He performed a Bus Jump sequence in Mudhalvan, and the film’s director Shankar appreciated his effort. The director also gifted him with a 500 rupee note. After a lot of initial struggles, Mudhalvan gave him the real break he was waiting for, and very soon he turned a busy actor of Tamil cinema. He is mostly seen playing negative or henchman roles for different language films, and was also seen in Malayalam hits such as Christian brothers, Black, Thommanum Makkalum etc where he got opportunity to work with lead Malayalam stars – Mammootty and Mohanlal.

He is married to R. Prabhavathy and the couple has two children. He shares his birthday with actor Madhavan. Both were born on the same day.
