Balaji Mohan Biography

Balaji Mohan is a successful film director of south Indian cinema, who mostly concentrates on Tamil language. After shooting more than half-a-dozen short films, he directed his first feature film in the year 2012. It was a bilingual released in Telugu and Tamil titled Love failure and Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi respectively. The movie was declared hit at box office and he received a nomination at SIIMA Awards for Best Debutant Director. The movie starred Siddharth and Amala Paul in the lead roles. His upcoming movie is Vaai Moodi Pesavum, which is a bilingual of Malayalam and Tamil.

Balaji was born on May 25, 1987 in Trichy to a Telugu father and a Tamil mother. He completed matriculation from Campion Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School in Trichy and later joined the SSN College of Engineering in Chennai. But since teens, Balaji dreamt to become a film director. While studying BTech, he shot a film using his handycam. His first short film was titled Velicham which participated in many film festivals and won appreciation. Thus, he convinced his parents and discontinued his engineering studies after two years to pursue a career in Film direction.

He joined the LV Prasad Film and TV Academy in Vadapalani, Chennai to learn editing and sound design and also studied acting at Alchemy Institute, Adyar, Chennai. He married his childhood friend in the year 2012. Other short films of Balaji are Kodi, The Juniors, Mittai Veedu, Addi Tail, Pudhayal and a few more. Balaji began his career in the role of assistant director for the Tamil film called Kulir 100° in 2009. He got the opportunity to join the Gateway to Hollywood, a television program on Sony TV. Later he worked as an assistant to a few more directors before shooting his first full-length movie, Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu.
