Bala Nandgaonkar Biography

Bala Nandgaonkar is an Indian politician from Maharashtra who is associated with the regional party, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena. He is a four term Member of the Maharashtra state Legislative Assembly representing Shivadi Assembly Constituency. However he lost Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections in 2014 after winning 4 assembly elections in a streak. He got elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly for the first time on a Shiv Sena ticket in 1995, followed by 1999, 2004 and 2009 for three consecutive terms from Shivadi constituency. When Maharashtra Navnirman Sena was formed by Thackerey in 2006, he left Shiv Sena and joined the newly formed party. In fact he was one of the driving forces along with Thackerey to form the new party.

 

Bala Nandgaonkar was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra on 1st June, 1957. His parents are Dagdu Lakhma Nandgaonkar and Parvatibai Dagdu Nandgankar. He married Leena Bala Nandgaonkar in 1999 and has one daughter. He was into business before he joined active politics. He remained a Corporator in Mumbai Municipal Corporation (Member of Education Committee) during 1992-1997. He got elected to Maharashtra Legislative Assembly for the first time in 1995, followed by 1999, 2004 and 2009 from Shivadi constituency, thus rising to one of the prominent leaders within regional politics.

 

He held office of the State Home Minister (Rural) in 1999. He also held office of the President of Maharashtra State Carrom Association from 1997 to 2001. While he was associated with Shiv Sena in his early years, he joined Maharashtra Navnirman Sena soon after its formation in 2006, and successfully contested 2009 state assembly elections, when he was fielded as MNS candidate from Shivadi Assembly Constituency.
