Bahadoor Biography

Bahadoor was a very popular comedian of Malayalam cinema during 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s. He along with Adoor Basi redefined the comedy element of Malayalam cinema and these two actors are regarded as the best comedians in the first phase of Malayalam cinema, often compared to Laurel and Hardy. His roles were similar to comedian Nagesh of Tamil and both where active as comedians in south Indian film industry during the same period. He has played sidekick of almost all leading actors of Malayalam and has entertained the crowd. With 1980’s Bahadoor switched on to character roles. Joker released in 2000 was his last movie. This veteran actor passed away on 22 May 2000 before the release of his last movie, where he played the role of a joker of a circus troupe who dies in the intermission.

His real name is Kunjalu Kochumoideen Padiyath and he was born in the year 1930 in Kodungalloor of Thrissur District, in Ernakulam border. He was the only boy to his parents and he had 7 sisters. He was born in a poor family. Bahadoor had affinity towards plays at a younger age. He was a brilliant student who passed SSLC with First class which was regarded excellent in those days. He joined Farook College, Calicut for Intermediate, but couldn’t complete studies due to poor economic condition of his family. His first job was as a bus conductor for a private bus. It was Thikkurussi Sukumaran Nair who made his ambitions come true by giving him a film role.

Bahadoor made his debut with a bit role in Avakasi (1954). By that time, he was established as an actor of amateur stage plays. His first big break was in the character of Chakkaravakkal in Padatha Painkili. This single role placed Bahadur as a talented actor and throughout his career spanning to about 5 decades, he has given hundreds of memorable roles to Malayalam cinema to ponder. He has also entered into production field to witness failures only.
