Badruddin Ajmal Biography

Badruddin Ajmal is a prominent politician from the state of Assam. He is a Member of 15th Lok Sabha representing Dhubri Lok Sabha constituency of Assam. He belongs to All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) party, established by him as the Assam United Democratic Front (AUDF) in 2005. He is also an industrialist, activist, educationist and philanthropist who earlier served as the president of Hojai session reception committee of Assam Sahitya Sabha, 2004 and Darul Hadith, Jayanagar Madrassa, Assam. He is the Chairman of Markazul Ma’arif Education and Research Centre (MMERC), Mumbai, which teaches English and skill training to madrasa graduates. As a philanthropist, he runs schools, orphanages and welfare projects.

 

Maulana Badruddin Ajmal was born to Ajmal Ali and Mariamunessa and is married to Rezwana Ajmal. He has 6 sons and one daughter. He was educated at Darul Uloom, Deoband, Uttar Pradesh. He holds Masters in Islamic Theology and Arabic. He is a popular Muslim leader in Assam who hails from a prominent business family. He runs Ajmal Group of Companies and many educational institutions under the NGO, Markazul Ma'arif founded by him in 1982. He serves as its president as well.

 

He was a Member of Assam Legislative Assembly during the period, 2006 to 2009. In 2006, he got elected from two constituencies. In 2009, he got elected to Lok Sabha from Dhubri Lok Sabha constituency. He is a member of Committee on Industry and Parliamentary Forum on Global Warming and Climate Change. In 2011 election for Assam Legislative Assembly, his party emerged as the largest opposition party in Assam winning 18 seats.
