Babul Supriyo Biography

Babul Supriyo is a playback singer of Hindi, Oriya and Bengali movies. He is greatly inspired by great singer Kishore Kumar. His singing style closely resembles Kumar Sanu too and very often it’s very difficult to differentiate the two voices. It proved both good and bad to his singing career. He started his singing career with the name Babul, later changed his name to Babul Supriyo. He has acted in a few Bengali movies as well.

 

As a Bollywood playback singer, his biggest breakthrough was all the leading songs of Priyadarshan’s Saat rang ke sapne of 1997 - Aati hai to chal, Ba ba bathao na and Dilon Ka Haal. Before this movie, he has sung a few credited and non-credited songs for the movies – Shastra, Sabse bada khiladi and Gaddar. O piya O piya of Agnisakhsi was also a big hit, though many misinterpreted it as voice of Kumar Sanu. After that he has given many hit songs of Bollywood. He has also released a successful album ‘Tere liye’ with the hit song – Tere liye dil mein uti hai tufaan.

 

Babul Supriyo was born in a musical family of Bengal. During his school days he has won “All India Don Bosco Music Champion” in 1983 and “The most enriching talent” title in 1985. During college days, he has won more than 45 inter college competitions proving his versatility. Kalyanji gave him the first break and gave him many live shows in India as well as abroad. Very soon he got the attention of many other music directors too. From middle 90’s he began to work in Bollywood delivering many big hits. O piya and aati hai to chal can be included in his first chartbusters.

 

His other hit songs include Dil ne dil ko pukara of Kaho na pyar hai, Chanda chamke of Fanaa, teri meri luv story of Meine pyar kyon kiya, Pyar mange and Title track of Jeena sirf mere liye, Kehna hai of Dil vil pyar vyar, Title track of Chori chori chupke chupke, Meine koi jaadu and Jab se dekha hai of Mujhe kuch kehna hai, Do labzom mein and Title track of Dhai akshar pyar ke, Humne tumko of Gunaah, Khata sawan ki ghata of Hello brother and Title track of Hum tum.
