Babu Janardhanan Biography

Babu Janardhanan is a film director, actor and screenwriter of Malayalam who scripted the highly acclaimed movies like Achanurangatha Veedu in 2006, the breakthrough movie of Salim Kumar’s acting career. Later he scripted and directed its sequel - Lisammayude Veedu in 2013 starring Meera Jasmine, Rahul Madhav and Salim Kumar. Vaasthavam and Thalappavu are his other highly acclaimed scripts. He entered film industry as a screenwriter and later moved to direction. He has made one documentary film on Alphonsamma in 1994 titled “Sahanangalude Amma”. He made his directorial debut through Mammootty starrer bilingual film ‘Bombay March 12’, which was widely appreciated. The film revolves around the effects of the 1993 Bombay blasts in the lives of three common men.

Babu belongs to Changanassery, Kottayam district. His childhood days were spent in his hometown where he completed his school education. After studies he started his career as a school teacher in Malappuram. He entered film industry as a screenwriter in the year 1990 through the movie, Anandavruthantham directed by P. Anil. Later he wrote the film scripts of many commercial movies like Oru Kochu Bhoomikulukkam, Sudhinam, Varna Pakittu, Dreamz, Chaturangam, Thachiledathu Chundan, Anubhuthi, Sudinam etc. Chandranudikkunna Dikhil is one among his major hits as a scriptwriter. The movie marked the successful debut of Kavya Madhavan.

With mid-2000s, he started writing the scripts of highly acclaimed movies. Achanurangatha Veedu, Vaasthavam and Thalappavu are among those notable works. As a film director, God for Sale (2013) is his latest release. This satire movie received negative response from critics and viewers. The movie starred Kunchacko Boban and Suraj Venjaramoodu in the pivot roles. He has announced his next movie - Kallan: Thaskaran Maniyan Pillayude Athmakadha.
