B. Sandhya Biography 
B.Sandhya is the Additional Director General of Kerala Police at present (July 2013). Her name is counted among the most powerful women voices of Kerala at present and one among the most efficient police officers of Kerala. She passed the Indian Civil Services Examination in 1988 and joined Police service thereafter and till now she is serving the state as an efficient police officer. Now, along with her husband Dr. K. Madhukumar and daughter, Hyma, she resides in the capital city Thiruvananthapuram and served the state. She is a well known poet also, who has published 5 works till now. She has also edited ‘Impressions, a Short History of Kerala Police’, published by the Director General of Police, Thiruvananthapuram. Her public speeches are also famous.
Sandhya was born in 1963 in Palai of Kottayam District as the daughter of S. Bharathadas and V.L Karthyayani Amma. She has trained in HRM from Wollongong University, Australia in the year 1998 and has also passed PGDBA from Pondicherry University in the year 1999. PhD from Birla Institute of Technology and Science from Pilaniis is her other educational qualification.
B.Sandhya joined police service in the year 1988 after passing Indian Civil Services Examination and she was posted at different districts including Thrissur, Kollam, Kannur and Thiruvananthapuram. Now she works as Asst. Inspector General of Police, Headquarters of the capital city. Before that she has worked as Assistant Superintendent of Police at Shornur and Joint Superintendent of Police at Alathur, Kollam, Thrissur and Kannur.
As an investigating officer, the cases of allegations of sexual assault made against former Kerala Public Works minister P. J. Joseph drew much attention from media and public. The Janamaithri Suraksha Project was implemented by B.Sandhya in the year 2009. It is a successful replica of Community Policing in Kerala. In 2006, she has won President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service. In 2010, she won USA based IAWP award.
She has published a few works till now - Tharattu (1999), Sthree Sakthi (2000), Balavadi (2001), Ranthal Vilakku (2002), Neermaruthile Uppan (2004) and Neelakkoduveliyude Kavalkkari(2004). Neelakkoduveliyude Kavalkkari - serialized novel published in Samakalina Malayalam Weekly earned her Edassery Award in the year 2007.
