B. Gopal Biography

Bezawada Gopal, shortly called B. Gopal is a noted film maker and screenwriter of Telugu film industry. He has directed many successful Telugu movies including Samarasimha Reddy (1999) which won him Filmfare award for best director in Telugu. He has directed over 30 Telugu movies and noted film actor Venu Thottempudi is his nephew. This director is known for making Telugu masala movies and action thrillers and majority of his movies have cashed well at box office. Narasimha Naidu, Rowdy Inspector, Indra, Maska Bobbili Raja, State Rowdy, Lorry Driver, Assembly Rowdy and Samarasimha Reddy are among his commercial hits. He has been associated with ‘Paruchuri Brothers film productions for his maximum hits.

 

He belongs to M.Nidamanuru village of Prakasam district. He has one brother and one sister. He did his schooling in Karumanchi and completed studies from Ongole. Then, with his family’s permission he decided to find luck in the film industry. He worked as an assistant under P.C. Reddy, noted film director. After a couple of films he assisted K. Raghavendra Rao, whom he regards as his mentor. He worked under K. Raghavendra Rao for long 12 years. To direct an independent film, the first opportunity was given by Dr. Daggubati Ramanaidu, noted Telugu filmmaker. Prathidvani in 1986 marked his career as an independent film director.

 

Alter on he directed many commercial hits with almost all leading heroes of the industry including Mohan Babu, Krishna, Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh and Nandamuri Balakrishna. Maska in 2009 was his last release and Hara Hara Mahadeva was his last announced project, though got shelved. In 1989 he directed one Bollywood movie – Kanoon apna apna starring Madhuri Dxit and Sanjay Dutt.
