Azim Premji Biography 
Azim Premji is an Indian businessman and philanthropist. He is the chairman of the company Wipro Limited. He is the third wealthiest Indian according to Forbes with a personal wealth of more than US$ 16.8 billion in 2011. He took a place in the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine in April 2004. He holds 74% of assets of Wipro. The company originally dealing with hydrogenated cooking fats grew to be a giant under his leadership. Wipro Technologies is one among the largest software companies of India and is ranked one of the top 100 technology companies worldwide.
Azim Premji was born on 24th July 1945 in Karachi which was the part of India at that time. His father was Shia Nizari Ismaili Persi MH Hasham Premji and he owned Western India Products which was later named as Wipro Ltd. This company was listed in Bombay stock exchange in 1945.
He studied at St. Mary’s School in Mumbai and joined electrical engineering in Standford University in California in USA. But due to the sudden death of his father in 1966 he had to leave his studies at the age of 21. At that time the net worth of his father was $1 million. After a gap of thirty years, he completed his degree in Electrical Engineering.
He married Yasmeen and has two children, Rishad and Tariq. He is modest and frugal in spite of his wealth. He started computer hardware and software development and related items in 1980. His computer division won SEI CMM level 5 and PCMM level 5 certifications. He also works with leading companies of the world like Alcatel, Nokia, Ericsson, Nortel and Cisco.
The consumer care products of Wipro are Santoor, Shikakai, Enchanteur, Santoor Talc, Wipro Baby Soft, Santoor Facewash, Wipro Sanjeevani Honey, Wipro Safewash, Snatoor Handwash, Wipro Sweet n Healthy, Santoor Deo and Chandrika Handwash.
He got honorary doctorate degree by the Manipal Academy of Higher Education and from the Aligarh Muslim University. He was awarded Padma Vibhushan award by the Government of India in 2011. He established Wipro Equity Reward Trust in 1984 and in 2001 started Azim Premji Foundation and in 2010 Azim Premji University was established.
