Ava Mukherjee Biography

Ava Mukherjee is a popular actress associated with Hindi entertainment industry. As a Bollywood actress she is best known for playing grandmother role in the movies, Devdas (2002), Detective Naani (2009) and Siddharth: The Prisoner (2009). She played the titular role of Detective Naani in 2009 film, Detective Naani. Her role as grandmother in Devdas (2002) catapulted to her fame. She has been a part of several nostalgic ads of Doordarshan in the 1990s. Ava is quite active in the film scene despite of her age and quite popular too. She made her film debut in the year 2000 when she was 74 years old.

Ava hails from Bengal and many of her family members are a part of Bollywood film industry. She is the Mother in law of noted singer of Bollywood, Jolly Mukherjee. Her son Romilla Mukherjee is a film director who directed the film, Detective Nani. Ava played the protagonist of a Nani (grandmother) in the film, who tries to solve a mysterious crime that has betided in her building. Ava made her film debut in 2000 through the Bollywood flick – Snip!, at the age of 74. Since then she has played a few roles on big screen.

Though she appeared in lesser number of movies, her presence has always been welcomed by audience. Her role as Shah Rukh Khan’s grandmother in Devdas (2002) is perhaps the most memorable role of her career. Though she played a small role, it was sweet, and remembered by audience. She played the role of grandmother who tells terrifying stories to the kids in the horror film – Darna zaroori Hai. She is quite popular among kids through her role in Detective Nani.
