Asrani Biography

Asrani is one among the celebrated comedians of Hindi cinema who was most active in the industry during 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. He has been successfully paired with Aruna Irani, another comedian of Hindi film industry and produced many comic scenes on Hindi celluloid. Among all his movies, his role as Inspector is remembered most. Other memorable movies of Asrani include – Chupke Chupke, Chhoti Si Baat, Rafoo Chakkar, Balika Badhu, Pati Patni Aur Woh, Khoon paseena, Hamare Tumhare, Baawarchi, Mere apne, Hamari Bahu Alka, Agar Tum Na Hote, Fakira, Anurodh, Chhailla Babu, Charas, Phaansi, Dillagi, Heeralal Pannalal, Ek Hi Bhool, Yeh Kaisa Insaf, Kaamchor, Love 86, Aaj Ki Taaza Khabar, Roti, Prem Nagar, Asha Jyoti, Maqsad, Main Intequam Loonga, Biwi Ho To Aisi and Khoon passena. Though he is known for comic roles most, he has also done character roles in movies like Khoon passena.

He has worked with almost all leading actors of the industry since late 60’s to late 90’s. He has been a part of many blockbuster hits of Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna including Sholay, Chupke chupke, Mere apne, Khoon paseena, Agar Tum Na Hote, Mili and Bawarchi. He has also played as the best companion of hero in many movies and in most of such movies, he was seen in comic style. Apart being a successful comedian, he has also directed a few Bollywood movies – Udaan, Dil hi to hai, Chala Murari Hero Banne, Hum Nahin Sudhrenge and one Gujarathi movie - Amdavad No Rikshawalo in 1974. Till now, he has acted in more than 350 Bollywood movies and has also worked for 50 Gujarathi movies as well.  

His most memorable performances as comedian from 90's are in Gharwali Baharwali, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Gardish, Taqdeerwala, and Hero Hindustani. He continued his successful journey through 2000’s as well and has become indispensable part of most of the comic flicks of Priyadarshan till then. He has been a part of the movies - Hera Pheri, Chup Chup Ke, Malamaal Weekly, Bhagam Bhag, De Dana Dan, Bol Bachchan, Chup Chup Ke, Hulchul, Garam Masala, Kamaal Dhamaal Malamal and Deewane Huye Paagal as a comedian. After Mehmood and Johny Walker, he is the most powerful comedian of Bollywood screen who has entertained crowd for more than 3 decades.
