Asok Kumar Ganguly Biography 
Asok Kumar Ganguly, best known as Justice Ganguly is the former Chairman of the West Bengal Human Rights Commission and also a former Judge of Supreme Court of India. He has remained in the news for wrong reasons following the 2G spectrum scam in 2010 and a sexual harassment case. He served as the Chief Justice, Orissa High Court before he got appointed in Supreme Court. He has twice functioned as the Acting Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court. Most recently it was rumored that the 2G spectrum scam was a conspiracy hatched against the former Supreme Court judge by political powers that he forcefully had to resign.
Ganguly was born on 3 February 1947 in West Bengal. After completing Master’s in English literature from University of Calcutta in 1968, he completed LLB in 1970. He started his career as a teacher in 1969.After completion of LLB he started his career as a lawyer in Calcutta High Court in 1972. In 1994, he became a permanent judge of Calcutta High Court and within 3 months, transferred to Patna High Court where he worked for 6 years. He was transferred to Kolkata High Court once again in 2000. He became a senior judge in 2005. Later he served at Orissa High Court and Madras High Court too. In 2008, he joined Supreme Court of India and in 2012 he attained superannuation. After retirement he worked as a guest lecturer and was also associated with West Bengal Human Rights commission as Chairperson.
On February 2, 2012, he cancelled 122 2G licenses issued in the year 2008 by Andimuthu Raja, the then Union Telecom Minister. The high profile 2G Spectrum scam involved many politicians and government officials and created great waves across India. Most recently he resigned from the West Bengal Human Rights Commission on 6 January 2014.
