Asmita Marwa Biography

Asmita Marwa is an upcoming fashion designer and costume designer from Hyderabad. Rated as one among the best nine international designers by Vogue, Marwa is known for her signature style of fusion of Indian traditional costumes with western. Her eclectic and vibrant avatar of Kalamkari made her an international figure in the recent times. She is also a columnist with Hyderabad Times. In December 2003 Marwa launched a fashion label, and since then her designs are featured in several leading fashion weeks of the country. Asmita also designs costumes for Telugu film industry and is the first designer from Hyderabad.

This Hyderabad based costume designer started her professional career in the 1990s. She is married to Harvesh Marwah and has one son. Asmita loves to use natural dyes and fabrics. She is a traveller in search of colours in diverse markets and rural places as well. She launched her fashion label in 2003. Her designs were featured in the Blenders Pride Fashion Fringe Show in 2004. In 2008, Asmita was featured by VOGUE as the promising talent and in 2013 she became one of the most sought after designer at the Lakme Fashion Week and Blender’s Pride Fashion Tour. She started her association with Lakme Fashion week in 2008 followed by "Gaia-An Awakening" collection in 2008 and “Maya and her Jaggery Knots” in 2009.

Her Kalamkaris became much talked in foreign cities like Paris and LA. Many leading Indian celebrities including actors and painters are her clients. The list includes renowned artists such as M. F. Hussain. She has designed clothes for south Indian movies such as Manmadhudu, Santhosham, Premante Idera, Arjun, Attadu, Pokiri, and Gharshana. Her maiden name is Asmita Gunti.
