Aslam Sher Khan Biography 
Aslam Sher Khan is an Indian hockey player and a former member of the Indian team. In the 1975 World Cup held at Kuala Lumpur, he played a significant role in winning gold medal to India. He has also represented Indian team in Munich Olympics held in 1972. He has been an active politician and has served as Member of Parliament and a Union Minister representing Congress Party. In December 1997, Aslam Sher Khan joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, but resigned two years later. ‘To Hell with Hockey’ is his published autobiography work.
Aslam Sher Khan was born on 15 July 1953 to Ahmed Sher Khan and Ahmedi in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. His father was also a sportsman who represented India in 1936 at the Berlin Olympics. He too was obsessed to hockey. Ahmed Sher Khan was the Hockey coach of Aslam's school but never selected Aslam to play for the school team, saying he has to learn a lot. He completed graduation in science from Bhopal. On 25 October 1981, Aslam married Rehana Sher Khan and they have two sons.
In 1966 Aslam was called up for the All India schools hockey camp at Bhopal. As his father was ill, he was reluctant to go. But his father advised him to go and participate. Hearing father’s advice, he attended the camp and was selected in the All-India schools hockey team as a forward under the famous hockey player Roop Singh. Roop Singh had earlier played with his father. Aslam lost his father at the age of 13 and he fulfilled his father’s dream to represent India in the Olympics like his father. Once retired from sports he joined politics. He was elected from Betul constituency in Madhya Pradesh in 1984 Lok Sabha elections. However he lost in 2004 and 2009 elections, both as Congress candidate.
