Ashutosh Gowariker Biography

Ashtoush Gowariker is an Indian film director, producer and an actor dominating the Bollywood film industry. Though he has been in the film industry since 1984, he came to limelight after the victory of the film Lagaan in 2001 that won him many awards. He has won numerous awards for his various films.

Ashtoush Gowariker was born on 15^th February 1964 in Mumbai in Maharashtra in a Marathi Brahmin family. His father’s name is Ashok Gowariker and his mother’s name is Kishori Gowariker. He married Sunita and has two sons named Konark and Vishwang.

He entered film industry as an actor in the year 1984 through the film Holi. Then he performed in many television serials. This first film as a director was in the year 1993 named Pehla Nasha. He stopped acting in films after 1999 and became a full-fledged director and producer. The film Lagaan in 2001 which is all about the cricket match between the Indian villagers and the British officers with the timeline of late 19^th century was not only a box office hit but also won many awards and honors and was staged in many film festivals.

He was also called the director of the actors because almost all the actors of his films won awards for best actor. The historical romance Jodhaa Akbar featuring Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan in the year 2008 proves his directorial intelligence. It was a mega hit that won applause both in India and abroad and bagged all major awards of the year.

His film in 2009, What is Your Raashee? was an innovative attempt featuring Priyanka Chopra in twelve different roles. However this romantic comedy did not fare well at box office. He has directed the films of many important actors of Bollywood such as Aamir Khan, Shahrukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Abishek Bachchan.
