Ashok Gehlot Biography

Ashok Gehlot is an Indian politician and 21st and 23rd Chief Minister of Rajasthan in India. He was born on 3rd May 1951 in Jodhpur in Rajasthan. He is a Science and Law graduate and also holds M.A. in Economics. His father is Shri Laxman Singh Gehlot. He married Sunita Gehlot on 27th November 1977 and has one son Vaibhav Gehlot and one daughter Sonia. He belongs to Rajput Mali community of Rajasthan and belongs to the Indian National Congress party.

 

Ashok Gehlot is an Indian politician, currently serving his third term as Chief Minister of Rajasthan since December 2018. He was elected for the first time to the seventh Lok Sabha in 1980 from Jodhpur Constituency. He served as the member of the 8th Lok Sabha from 1984 to 1989, 10th Lok Sabha from 1991 to 1996, 11th Lok Sabha from 1996 to 1998 and 12th Lok Sabha from 1998 to 1999. He was elected to the 11th Rajasthan Legislative Assembly from Sardarpura Assembly Constituency in February 1999. He was again elected to the assembly on 4th December 2003 and on 8th December 2008 for the 13th Rajasthan Vidhan Sabha.

 

He served in the Cabinets of the Indian Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and P. V. Narasimha Rao. He served as the Union Deputy Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation from 2nd September 1982 to 7th February 1984 during the tenure of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and as the Deputy Minister of Sports from 7th February 1984 to 31st October 1984 and from 12th November 1984 to 31st December 1984. He was appointed as the Union Minister of State, Tourism and Civil Aviation from 31st December 1984 to 26th September 1985. He was made as the Union Minister of State for textiles from 21st June to 18th January 1993.

 

In the 2003 Rajasthan State Assembly elections, he lost and Mrs. Vasundhara Raje Scindia of Bharatiya Janata Party became the Chief Minister of the state. He was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan for the third time on 17th December 2018.
