Asha Sarath Biography

Asha Sarath is a noted film and television actress of Malayalam. Kumkumapoovu is her most popular television serial in which she appeared in lead heroine’s role. This television serial earned her loud applause as well as numerous television awards. Though she appeared in numerous movies in supporting roles, it was 2013 movie Drishyam which is regarded as her most powerful role till now. Her negative shaded powerful role of IG Geetha Prabhakar who also showed deep shades and agonies of motherhood earned critics appreciation as well. Her role as IG played a significant role in the bumper success of Drishyam, making it to the list of first Malayalam movie to achieve 50 crore rupees collection. She is reprising the same role in its Kannada remake as well. Drishyam can be regarded as the milestone movie of this actress’ acting career. She earned Asianet Film Awards and Jai Hind TV awards for Best Supporting Actress for the same role till now.

She was born in Perumbavoor, Ernakulam on 15 November 1976. Her mother is renowned classical dancer Kalamandalam Sumathy from whom she received initial training in Indian classical dance forms. In 1992 she won all-India dance fete in Benares which helped to earn many film and television serial offers. But she chose telefilms and serials. In 2006 Asha received the "Kalaratna Swathi Thirunal Award". She has also received Kalathilakam titles at state art festivals during her academic years. She is married to Sarath and the couple has two daughters. After marriage she settled in Dubai.

The telefilm Nizhalum Nilavum Parayunnathu, which earned her second best actress Satae award, was one of his early breaks which earned her lead role in Kumguma poovu, the television serial through which she became a household name. The title role earned her numerous television awards for lead actress as well. As a film actress, she appeared in Friday, Zachariayude Garbhinikal, Buddy etc.
