Aseem Mishra Biography

Aseem Mishra is a successful cinematographer associated with Bollywood at present. He has been a part of several Bollywood hits and blockbusters in the recent times. New York, Ek Tha Tiger, Band Baaja Baraat, Ladies vs. Ricky Behl, Gunday and Paan Singh Tomar, Dabangg 2, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Phantom are among his major works as a cinematographer. He has worked with many leading actors and directors of Bollywood cinema of present time. He has worked for three big hits of Salman Khan’s career - Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Dabangg 2 (2012) and Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015). Mishra has been roped in for Ram Charan’s next Telugu flick – an official remake of Tamil super hit film ‘Thani Oruvan’.

He was born and brought up in Dhanbad of present day Jharkand. A technocrat's son, he completed his matriculation from Kendriya Vidhyalaya in 1988. After doing graduation from Delhi's Kirori Mal College, he studied cinematography in MCRC, Jamia Millia University. Roshan Abbas was his roommate at Jamia. His father L.M. Mishra retired as the deputy director general of Directorate General of Mines Safety. Aseem was given the first break to Bollywood by film director Kabir Khan in 2005, who was a senior at his college. After that he shifted from Delhi to Mumbai. He has worked with Kabir Khan for many Bollywood films, which became major hits at box office.

As a teenager he watched a lot of old classics at Railway Club in Dhanbad. That’s how he got deeply interested in films and film making. He loves Satyajit Ray’s films, which he used to watch during his teens at Railway Club. He is a great fan of Sven Vilhem Nykvist, the Swede cinematographer, for his lighting. Ram Gopal Varma’s Contract was his first break to Bollywood.
