Arogyaswami Paulraj Biography

Arogyaswami Paulraj is an Indian professor who excels in electrical engineering. He was born in Pollachi near Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, India. He is working as the professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University from the year 1993. He has developed various strategies for space-time communications and developed this theory facilitating worldwide research on this technology.

His career included development of military sonar system and massively parallel computers. He founded three national level laboratories namely Center for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Center for Advanced Computing and Central Research Laboratories.

He is a Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineering and has received many national awards for his achievements. He joined Stanford University in 1992 and since that time, he is focusing on space time wireless communications.

He has authored more than 320 research papers and has acquired 30 US patents in wireless technology. He also has written two books in this niche.

He founded Iospan Wireless Inc., in the year 1999 and this company was acquired by Intel Corporation in 2002 and in 2004, he founded Beceem communications Inc. This was aimed at developing base band and RF Chips sets for WIMAX 802.16e standard. This has grown to be the leading supplier of Mobile WIMAX chip sets throughout the world.

He is serving as the member of the US National Academy of Engineering and for he got the IEEE Technical Achievement Award in the year 2003 for his contributions. He is called as the Father of WIMAX by Business Week.

He received Padma Bhushan award by the Government of India in 2010 and is serving as the Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering and National Academy of Sciences and Associate Fellow of TWAS.
