Anuradha Patel Biography

Anuradha Patel is a very popular actress of Bollywood screen who has played numerous lead and supporting roles in the 1980s. She is also seen portraying character roles on screen in her second innings. As a film actress, she is best known for playing the supporting roles of Utsav and Ijaazat in the 1980s, both co-staring actress Rekha. She also earned a Filmfare nomination for the memorable role of Maya she portrayed in Ijaazat, co-staring Naseeruddin Shah. The movie directed by Gulzar was praised for the performances and showing different layers of human relationships. Quite interestingly, both these movies co-staring Rekha were love triangles.

Anuradha was born in Mumbai. Her maternal grandfather is the legendary actor Ashok Kumar, one of the early members of Ganguli family. Thus she belongs to the very famous Ganguly family of Bollywood cinema. She is married to actor Kanwaljit Singh, best known for character roles on big and small screen. Anuradha made her film debut in the 1983 film Love in Goa opposite Mayur Verma. Later she accepted several lead and supporting roles for Bollywood cinema. Some of her noted films include - Utsav (1984), Sadaa Suhagan (1986), Ijaazat (1987), Rukhsat (1988) etc. In the 1990s she took a break from silver screen after her marriage.

She returned to entertainment industry only in the late 2000s, and appeared on both big screen and television. She was seen in super hit movies like Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na (2008) and Ready (2011). Maya for Ijaazat remains the most memorable role of Patel on big screen. The very famous Bollywood songs – Mere Kuch Saman from Ijaazat and Man Kyon Mehkare from Utsav sung by Mangeshkar sisters were filmed on her. She currently serves as the director of Dynamic Finishing Academy for Personality Development.
