Anuradha Menon Biography

Anuradha Menon, popularly called Lola Kutty is one of the most successful VJs of Channel V. She is popularly known for her alter ego and dictating English dialogues in south Indian ascent in a comic way. She regularly interviews cine artists in Channel V in her distinct ‘Lola Kutty’ style and has been a part of many successful shows of Channel V since early 2000’s. Anu Menon immortalized the fictional character, Lolo Kutty on the small screen by her distinct talent. She is a successful theatre artist and though she received many film offers, she constrained herself to theater work and television.

 

She is of Kerala origin, but brought up in Chennai. Both her parents belong to advertising industry. She is a theater artist too and has been associated with ‘The Madras Players’, an amateur group from Chennai regarded as the oldest English troupe of the metro city. Then she did a one-year theatre course from London Film School and returned back to Mumbai and got recognized as a theater artist very soon. Divya Palat's "The Verdict” was her big break in which she dictated English in heavy Malayalam ascent, in alter ego. That’s how she joined television industry playing the imaginary character role of Lolo Kutty on Channel V. She was recommended by VJ Gaurav.   

 

The character Lola Kutty is described as "the Channel [V] resident beauty on duty". The character became so popular that she often appears is public as Lola Kutty. Unlike other VJs she always wears silk saris, gold jewellery and jasmine flowers for the show and always spotted with curly oily hair. Her assistant is Shiny Alex, who is also noticed for his fluorescent shirts and matching accessories. Her show has helped Channel V to increase TRP ratings significantly and no doubt, Lola Kutty is the reigning queen among the female VJs of Indian entertainment industry.

 

Though she has faced criticisms for being offensive to Malayali people, she cleared her stand stating that earlier all south Indians were known as Madrasis and it was through her successful show that people belonging to other parts of the world came to know about the existence of Kerala and its people with a distinct culture.
