Anupriya Patel Biography

Anupriya Patel is a young politician from Uttar Pradesh who currently serves as the Member of Parliament in the 16th Lok sabha. She represents Apna Dal, the regional party founded by her father Sone Lal Patel and she got elected from Mirzapur of Uttar Pradesh. She has been general secretary of Apna Dal since the death of her father in 2009. The party campaigned in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2014 general elections, but rejected the merging of her party with BJP. She has previously served as an MLA of state assembly, representing Rohaniya constituency.

 

This young and energetic politician was born in UP in 1981 to prominent political leader, Apna Dal. She graduated at Lady Shri Ram College for Women in 2001. Later she studied at Amity University and Kanpur University and holds Master’s degrees in both Psychology and Business Administration. After completion of studies, she joined as faculty in Amity University and continued with her social work. She got married in 2009, and soon after the death of her father 12 days after her marriage, she took the responsibility of the party formed by her father and became its general secretary. Dr Sone Lal Patel died in a road accident in Kanpur on October 17, 2009. Since then, she is actively involved in politics and got elected to state assembly as well. Her mother currently serves as the president of the party.

 

Though she feels that her father’s death has left an unfilled void in her life, she is moving forward, actively involved with politics and social work. She strengthened her party and decided to choose her father’s path as well. It was only her father’s death which prompted her to join politics. Currently she serves as a parliamentarian.
