Anoop Jacob Biography

Anoop Jacob is a young politician from Kerala belonging to Kerala Congress (Jacob), an integral part of UDF political alliance in Kerala. He is the son of eminent politician, T. M. Jacob who founded the party in 1993. Currently he serves as an MLA in Kerala State Legislative Assembly. He got elected from Piravom Constituency, following a bi-election conducted at Piravom constituency in March 2012 following the demise of his father. He holds an LLB degree and is a lawyer by profession.


He was born on 16 September 1978 as the son of famous politician, T. M. Jacob and Annie. He is married to Anila and the couple has two kids. He studied matriculation and graduation at Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram and it was during this time he got actively involved with politics and students’ movements. He founded a unit of Kerala Students Congress (Jacob) in 1994. In 1997 he was elected as the Magazine Editor and the released college magazine "Prathibha" won many awards including Malayala Manorama award for Kerala's best college Magazine. In 1998 he contested for the College Chairman position though he lost it.

 
He became the State president of the Kerala Students Congress (Jacob) in 2001. He completed LLB from Kerala Law Academy, and started his career as a lawyer at the Kerala High Court, Ernakulam. Following his father’s death in 2011, who was serving as the state minister of Civil Supplies, he was nominated as the new candidate of Kerala Congress (Jacob) party. Earlier his father was selected to MLA position with a narrow margin of just 157 votes and in the by-elections he won by a good margin of 12071 votes. Both these times, the party won against M. J. Jacob.
