Annie Biography

Annie is a former actress of Malayalam screen. She has been one of the top actresses in the middle 1990’s. Her debut movie, Ammayane Satyam released in 1996 is still regarded as a classic comedy of Malayalam cinema. She is married to popular Malayalam film director, Shaji Kailas and after marriage she changed her name to Chitra. She adopted Hinduism as well.

Now she resides in the capital city of Kerala leading a peaceful family life. Yet she is popular among the masses and appears often in interviews of leading magazines. She also keeps touch with film celebrities, particularly with those ladies of big screen who have settled with family life. She is interested in cooking and most recently launched a catering unit named The Big Oven. She has been one among those leading actresses of 1990’s who disappeared from big screen after a short period in the field, though was popular indeed. Her debut movie

Annie is born in Thiruvananthapuram to Jobbie and Mariyamma Jobbie on 21 July 1978. She studied at Holy Angels Convent and later at All Saints College, Thiruvananthapuram. She was the discovery of great filmmaker Balachandra Menon. Menon who was searching for a new face for his latest movie gave her the lead role for his next movie, when she interviewed him for Doordarshan. She was only 14 then and studying in class 10. Her stunning performance in Ammayane satyam (1993) as Ramkumar Thomas alias Parvathi, received rave reviews as well as audience appreciation. She appeared in the role of Thomas, a servant in the first half and reveals that she is a girl only in the second half of the film. In this comic thriller, she was paired opposite Mukesh.

As she had already signed a contract with Balachandra Menon, she couldn’t accept many movies like Manichitra thazhu and Kashmiram. She joined All Saints College for graduation. In 1994, she got a role in Rudraksham. Yet it was Kamal’s Mazhayethum mumpe that gave a fresh new start for her career. Though her supporting character had a few grey shades, she over shadowed both its leading actors – Mammootty and Shobana, two great names of Malayalam film industry. Later she appeared in a few more movies in lead roles such as Mookkilla Rajyathu Murimookkan Rajavu, Kalyanji Anandji, Alancheri Thamprakkal, Tom and Jerry, Parvathy Parinayam, Puthukottyile Puthu Manavalan, Mazhavilkoodaram, Saakshyam and Swapna Lokathe Balabhaskaran. Annie got married to Shaji Kailas on 1 June 1996 and after marriage, she took break from the industry when she was at the peak of her career.
