Anjaan Biography

Anjan is a popular lyricist of Bollywood film industry. He is most popular for songs of Amitabh’s movies like Muquaddar ka sikander, Namak Halal, Lawaris, Sharabi, Aaj ka arjun, Ganga ki Saugandh, Yarana and Don. His son Sameer is also a very popular lyricist of present times who has associated most with Nadeem-Shravan. Apart from Big B’s movies, he has written lyrics for many hit movies during late 70’s and 80’s of which Chameli ki shaadi, Himalay ke oonche, Hera pheri, Ghungroo, Do anjaane, Ek naari ek brahmachari, Easwar,  Badalthey Rishtey, Muquaddar ka faisla and Dalal are popular. Shola aur Shabnam was his last work.

Anjan was born in Varanasi of UP. He started his musical journey with ‘Prisoner Of Golconda’ released in the year 1953. Songs were Lehar Yeh Dole Koyal Bole and Shaheedon Amar Hai Tumhari Kahani. But he needed to work for B grade movies to get opportunity as lyricists like Kaifi Azmi, Sahir Ludvanwi and Anand Bhakshi were at the top. However he was able to get a few opportunities in late 60’s of which ‘Bandhan’ and ‘Baharein phir phi ayenge’ became successful. The song, ‘Aap ki haseen ruk pe’ of Baharein phir phi aayenge was a huge hit. Mohd.Rafi sung that song for Dharmendra. Then he wrote lyrics for Shankar Jaikishen for movies like Rivaaj, Umang and Ek Nari Ek Brahmachari.  Vandana, Hungama and Kab kyon aur Kahan also belong to late 60’s and early 70’s.

His career noticed uplift when he got opportunity to write for Amitabh Bachchan’s movies. When those movies became huge hits one after the another, songs as well as lyrics were well noted and appreciated and he got more opportunities – both for Big B’s and other actors’ movies. His biggest hit songs include – Rote hue, Salaam-e-ishq, Dil to hai and Oh saathire of Muquaddar ka sikander, Gori hai kalayiya of Aaj ka Arjun, Kab se bichde and Jiska hamein tha intazaar of Lawaris, Imtihaan ho gayi intezaar ki and De de pyar de of Sharabi, Chookar mere man ko, Tera jaisa yaar kaha and Saara zamana of Yaarana, Yeh mera dil, Khaike paan and Mein hoon Don of Don – He has given huge hits for Amitabh Bachchan movies. Among other works, Mere saasom ko of Badalthey Rishtey and Yashoda Ka Nandlala (Sanjog) were big hits too.
