Anindya Chatterjee Biography

Anindya Chatterjee is a popular Bengali singer, music director and lyricist. He is the lead vocalist and one of the founders of the Bengali band Chandrabindoo. Along with band-mate Chandril Bhattacharya, he won the 2010 National Film Award for Best Lyrics for the song "Pherari Mon" in the Bengali film Antaheen (2009). As an actor, he has appeared as Ajit Bandyopadhyay, investigator Byomkesh Bakshi's friend in Satyanweshi (2013). He has also acted in Shubho Mahurat (2003) and Y2K (Athoba, 'Sex Krome Aasitechhe') (2000). As a musician – singer, lyricist or composer, his movies include - Antaheen (2009), Jodi Ekdin (2010), Natobar Not Out (2010), Icche (2011) and Aparajita Tumi (2012).

 

Chandrabindoo is one of the leading brands of Bengali music most noted for satire lyrics written by Chandril Bhattacharya and Anindya Chatterjee, touching social issues and current affairs. Other band members include - Upal Sengupta — singer/ music composer/ lead vocal, Arup Podder — bassist, Surojit Mukherjee — guitarist/ arranger, Rajshekhar Kundu — drummer, Sibabrata Biswas— keyboardist and Sourabh — percussionist. Their studio albums include – Hulabila, Aar Jani Na, Gadha, Chaw, U/A, Juju, Noy, Twaker Jatna Nin and Daknam. Their compilation albums include – Chandrabindaas, Ebhabeo Phire Asha Jae, Shera Chandrabindoo and Bachhai 11. Chandrabindoo has performed as a group for recording many Bengali film songs.

 

During late 1980’s, Anindya took an undergraduate degree from the Scottish Church College, University of Calcutta. At the college's annual fest Caledonia, he sang his composition Sweetheart, which became a phenomenal success. Thus he became initiated in the Kolkata college festival circuit and the popular band, Chandrabindoo was formed in the year 1989. Upal Sengupta and Chandril Bhattacharya, members of the band were his classmates. Their first released album was Aar jani na and they had to struggle a lot for the release of this album and to reach success path. Released in 1998, it received luke warm response only. But their second album Gadha became successful establishing their name in the music industry.
