Anil Goswami Biography 
Anil Goswami is an Indian Administrative Service officer from Kashmir, who formerly held the position of Union Home Secretary of India in the Ministry of Home Affairs till February 2015. As an IAS officer, he belonged to Jammu and Kashmir cadre and is the first officer from civil service to hold this position. Raj Kumar Singh was his Predecessor and the position is currently held by LC Goyal. Anil Goswami was asked to resign from the post on 4th Feb 2015 for interfering into CBI's Inquiry into Sharda scam, and he resigned.
Anil Goswami was born in Jammu in 1955. His wife is a lawyer. His son Bhanu Uday is a noted actor who works in television and films, and known for the lead role in the crime thriller series, Special Squad. After doing Bachelor in Arts, he completed Post-graduation in History. Goswami later joined Indian administrative Service, and belongs to 1978 batch of the Jammu and Kashmir cadre.
During his tenure as IAS officer, he served as the first chief executive of the Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (1986), which played a significant role in the maintenance of the Hindu pilgrimage Vaishno Devi. He later served as the Principal Secretary of state Tourism department (2004-2005), followed by Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister (2005-2008).
He was appointed as Union Home Secretary of India, for the tenure of two years following the retirement of Raj Kumar Singh. He joined the home ministry as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) on April 27 2013. Prior to this appointment he served as the secretary in the ministry of social justice and empowerment. He had held the post of additional secretary in the home ministry. Following the controversies of Sharda scam, he had to resign from the post on 4th Feb 2015.
