Aneesh Upasana Biography

Aneesh Upasana is a photographer turned filmmaker of Malayalam film industry. Quite a famous and well established fashion photographer, he turned to film direction and screenwriter. Till now he has directed two Malayalam films - Matinee and Seconds. Known for making unpredicted thrillers, both his directorial ventures received positive reviews from critics. Matinee starring Mammootty's nephew Maqbool Salmaan was a commercial hit too. Kinder Joyee is his upcoming release, and the movie stars Shine Tom Chacko, Srinda Ashab and Soubin Shahir in lead roles. His wife Anjali Aneesh Upasana is a noted actress associated with Tamil and Malayalam film industry. The couple has one daughter.

He was born in Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu. He is of Kerala origin. He didn’t have any gurus or mentors in photography. He learnt everything himself. He learnt the art of photography by following second hand magazines like Vogue, Filmfare and Stardust, he used to pick from Marine Drive, Kochi. He started off as a fashion/still photographer for magazines, with a monthly salary of just 2000. Since then through his hard work and dedication he became a leading fashion photographer of the industry, who later ventured into film direction successfully.

While doing photography for magazines, his single dream was to get into films. He used to hang around film sets, took stills of the films and learnt things from scratch. He also made a few friends and relations from the artistic world of cinema. He also travelled to Chennai to learn film making closer. Still he is madly in love with photography. He shot the video album Mayamadhavam on a still digital camera which helped him to enter into the Limca Book of world records. Matinee in 2012 marked his film debut as a director. The film met with commercial and critical success. Since then he is associated with Malayalam cinema.
