Anara Gupta Biography 
Anara Gupta is a former Indian model from Jammu and Kashmir who became the target of widely publicized pornography and police scandal in Jammu and Kashmir since 2004. She was the winner of ‘Miss Kashmir’ beauty pageant in 2001. But since 2004 a DVD with a pornographic movie allegedly featuring Anara got circulated and aired on regional channels, she has been witnessing allegations. She along with her family got arrested the same year since pornography is still illegal in India. Later many shocking news came out, including a larger pornography ring and involvement of government officials and politicians.
Gupta was a well-established model of Kashmir belonging to Jammu. But she lost her blossoming career soon after the news of her pornography DVD surfaced. Gupta was held in custody for about 10 days and later presented before the media. She accused the cable operator Narinder Kohli, well known personality of the time of rapping her and later luring her to the pornography business. She also accused that Kohli blackmailed her using the DVD. When she revealed that many influential persons of the society too were involved in the business it shocked the whole world.
The detention was later found to have been illegal. She also claimed that she was tortured while she was detained and later three police officers were dismissed. Later the investigation of forensic lab in Hyderabad concluded that the lady in the tape was not Anara and tried to close the case. But Chandigarh came up with opposition. In 2005 Court barred Gupta from talking to the media. In 2005, she met officials of the National Commission for Women and the National Human Rights Commission to investigate the alleged police misconduct. Later she acted in a television serial and also a movie based on her real life incidents. The movie was titled, Miss Anara which received protests from Siva Shena to release at theatres. Though the case was closed in December 2005 without charging Gupta, it was re-opened once again in 2006.
