Anand Gandhi Biography

Anand Gandhi is a noted film maker and screenwriter from Mumbai. He is also a part of parallel theatre under which he has wrote and directed many critically well appreciated plays. He has directed only 3 movies till now - Right Here, Right Now (2003), Continuum (2006) and Ship of Theseus (2013). He entered direction field with short film, Right Here, Right Now in the year 2003 which gathered numerous international awards including Best Short Film at Syracuse international film festival, Audience award for best short film at Shnit international film festival, and was also the official selection at Tribeca international film festival. He has also scripted the television soap opera of Star Plus, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and has also written the dialogues of first few episodes of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.

His most recent release, Ship of Theseus made in the year 2013 has also gathered numerous awards and honours including BFI Jury Special Mention at BFI London film festival, Enlighten Award at Naya cinema festival and Transylvania Trophy at Transylvania international film festival. It was also nominated for best screenplay at Asian film awards. In 2007, Continuum won Film comet award at Hannover international film festival.

Anand was born in Vaishnav Gujarati family. Later he was raised by Gujarati Jain family. He loves poetry a lot and writes as well, though has not published yet. Anand Gandhi's writing career began in 2000 with Indian soaps. Record breaking soap opera, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi was his first break. He wrote dialogues for the first 82 episodes of this most popular Indian television series. He was associated with Ekta Kapoor’s next project as well - Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii for which he wrote the screenplay. But he felt disgust over his work and later moved to plays. Sugandhi, Pratyancha, Kshanotsav, Na and Janashtaru are worth to mention. Chal Reverse Ma Jaiye is his single mainstream play.
