Anand Bakshi Biography

Anand Bakshi was a lyricist of Bollywood yesterdays most popular for the trend setting songs of Aradhana in 1969. He is a popular poet as well. As a lyricist his best works include DDLJ,  Mohra, Bobby, Amar Prem, Dushman,Yaadein, Gaddar ek prem katha, Seeta aur geeta, Aaya sawan jhoom ke, Hum, Nagina, Sholay, Mohabbatein, Heer Ranjha, Mera gao mera desh, Balika Vadhu, Do raasthe, Aye din bahar ke, Jeene ki raah, Himalay ki gode mein, Jab jab phool khile, Milan, Charas and Taal. His last released songs belong to Mujhse dosti karoge, after his death in 2002. He has also done playback singing for Mom ki gudiya – song was Rut hai suhani aayi aaja, pictured on Tanuja. He has a lovely association with Laxmikanth Pyarelal during 60’s, 70’s as well as 80’s. He has penned his lyrics for many Rajesh Khanna lyrics too.

 

Anand Bakshi is of Kashmir origin and born at Rawalpindi, now at Pakistan. With partition in 1947, his family migrated to Delhi. He then served Indian army too, and done his first publication of poems while he was on his job. His first published poem appeared in an Army publication, “Sainik Samachar”. It gave him enough courage to seek opportunity in Bollywood. He used to perform as a singer and poet in military camps. He came to Bollywood with dreams of lyricist and singer but settled here later with lyrics only. His powerful pen gave strength to many tunes of Bollywood and most of them are still remembered all over the world.

 

Among all his songs, songs of Aradhana are still the best. Mere sapnon ki rani and Roop tera masthana have not lost their popularity yet and still admired by millions. Safal hogi teri aaradhana, Kora kaagaz and Bagom mein bahar hai are also very popular. He earned a Filmfare nomination for Kora kaagaz tha, though couldn’t win it.  Anand Bhakshi has been continuously nominated in Filmfare for consecutive 13 years from 1970 till 1982. He got 23 nominations during this time though could win only twice – Apnapan and Ek duje ke liye.

 

He has been nominated for songs like Sawan Ka Mahina" from Milan, Na Koi Umang Hai" from Kati Patang, Badi Mastani Hai" from Jeene Ki Raah, Gaadi Bula Rahi Hai" from Dost,’Admi musafir’ of Apnapan,title track of Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki, Sawan Ke Jhoole Pade" from Jurmana,  Chingari Koi Bhadke" from Amar Prem, Dufli wale of Sargam, Lagi aaj sawan of Chandini, Dard-e-Dil and Om shanty om of Karz, Yaad Aa Rahi Hai" from Love Story, Sola baras ki and Tere mere beech mein of Ek duje ke liye, Aayegi Zaroor Chiththi" from Dulhan, Mere Naina Sawan Bhadon" from Mehbooba, Jab Hum Jawan Hoge" from Betaab, Sohni Chinam Di" from Sohni Mahiwal, Zindagi Har Kadam" from Meri Jung, Hum Tum Ek Kamre Mein" from Bobby, Parda Hai Parda" from Amar Akbar Anthony and Bindiya Chamkegi" from Do Raaste. This list has not included all his nominations and if we take his hit numbers, its count is infinitive!
