Amardeep Jha Biography

Amardeep Jha is a very popular actress and TV presenter of Hindi entertainment industry. She works in television and film industry since 1990s. She has been a part of several memorable and hit TV shows playing elderly characters, and currently very active on small screen. Her grandma roles are noticed most, and she is quite known for her strong, bold and powerful characters on screen. As a film actress, she shot to fame playing Sharman Joshi’s ailing mother in Bollywood blockbuster, 3 Idiots. Noted film and television actress Shriya Jha is her daughter. She is a promising young actress who works in Odia film industry as well as south Indian films.

Amardeep Jha’s family hails from Patna, Bihar. She was born in Dehradun, Uttarakhand on 14 July 1960 into a Brahmin family. She belongs to a Sikh family. Currently she resides in Mumbai, where she is active with her professional career. She is associated with entertainment industry since early 1990s, and is active in Bollywood film industry since late 1990s. Over the years, she has played several powerful small screen roles on screen.

She began her profession with the TV serial Amanat in 1997, in which she assumed the part of Amit's mom. Dushman in 1998 marked her Bollywood debut. She was later seen in Bollywood films such as Devdas, 3 Idiots, Lajja, Satta, Naina, Amal, Murder 2, PK etc. She played Anushka Sharma’s mother, a superstitious lady in PK. Some of her popular TV shows are Sinndoor Tere Naam Ka, Meri Durga, Nazar, Kuch Toh Log Kahenge, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Ishq Ka Rang Safed, Sapna Babul Ka...Bidaai etc. Her role as Sumitra Nani in Sapna Babul Ka...Bidaai was well received. She is fondly called ‘Mausi Ji’ in television circuit.
