Amar Upadhyay Biography

Amar Upadhyay is a model and successful television actor. He has also appeared in a few Bollywood movies like 12B, Dhund: The Fog, LOC: Kargil, Jodi Kya Banayi Wah Wah Ramji, Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge! and Dahshat. He became popular among television viewers with the longest running soap opera of Indian television, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi on Star Plus where he played the role of Mihir Virani. One of the top rated comedy sitcoms of Doordarshan middle 1990’s – Dekh bhai dekh was his first noted appearance.

Amar Upadhyay was born on August 1, 1976. He started his career as a successful model. Once Jaya Bachchan happened to see his pictures in a magazine and she called him to give him a role in comedy sitcom of Doordarshan, Dekh bhai dekh. He is a chemical engineer by profession and holds a Black belt in Taekwondo too. Dekh bhai dekh gave him good break to television and very soon he received numerous roles. A few of his appearances during the second half of 1990’s include - Arzoo, Suhana Safar, Tulsi, Kalash and Mehndi Tere Naam Ki. Later he became immensely popular with mega TV daily soap, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi in 2000. When his character Mihir Virani died in 2001, it was followed by protests of its viewers that Ekta Kapoor had to ‘bring him back to life’. He is still recounted amongst TV superstars.

His successful television career brought him Bollywood offers as well. He debut Bollywood with Dahshat in 2003. But he couldn’t repeat his success on small screen. Later too, many of his released movies failed and he returned to small screen. He has been a part of television soaps like Saathiya - Pyar ka Naya Ehsaas, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Chand Ke Paar Chalo, Ek Thhi Naayka, Dhoop Mein Thandi Chaav...Maa, Virasat and Des Mein Niklla Hoga Chand. He participated in Big Boss season 5 and finished 5th.
