Altaf Raja Biography

Altaf Raja is a professional qawwali singer, most popularly known for the song, Hum to dahar pardesi. He has also sung for a few Bollywood movies like Shapat, Tirchi topiwala and Keemat. He has released a series of private albums and one among the most popular qawwali singer since middle 90’s. Hum to dahar pardesi was released in the year 1997 and till now, it’s the most popular album of Raja. His pardesi songs are instant hit. He has a huge fan following him listening to his unique voice and singing style.  Tum se kitna pyar hai of Ram Gopal varma’s Company sung by Altaf was a huge hit. His songs always tell stories of romance and separation. Koi Patthar Se Na Mare is another instant hit album song of Altaf. He is an opera singer at present.

He has also sung songs for Toonpur Ka Superhero, Market, Madholal: Keep Walking, Pardesi babu, Tirchhi Topiwale, Chandaal, Company, Benaam, Mother and Keemat: They Are Back. He has composed songs for a couple of Bollywood movies - Dukaan: Pila House and Market. He has appeared in a few songs sung by him in those movies too. Songs of Sapadh, Ghanchakkar, Yamraaj, Mother and Khoon ki pyaas featured him as a performer too.

 

Altaf Raja was born in Nagpur in 1967 to a very poor family of artists who traveled to different places for earn their livelihood. His nasal style of singing was appreciated and with his first song, Pardesi he became a very popular singer.
