Alok Dixit Biography

Alok Dixit is a journalist and social activist, who along with the controversial cartoonist Aseem Trivedi started 'Save Your Voice’, a movement against internet censorship in India in January 2012. He also initiated 'Stop Acid Attacks' Campaign.  'Save Your Voice’ was launched by both soon after the block of the controversial cartoon website of Aseem. Aseem has been a part of ‘India Against Corruption’ movement of Anna Hazare and his political cartoons titled ‘Cartoons Against Corruption’ received huge criticisms and invited controversies for insulting Mother India, Parliament and National Emblem. Alok is known for supporting youth who feels free to express their ideas through the medium of internet. ‘Save your voice’ is a campaign against internet censorship and blocking of online data.

 

Dixit was born in Kanpur in 1988. He completed journalism from Indian Institute of Journalism & New Media, Bangalore. Yet he joined Indian Air Force in 2007 and worked for two years. Then he resigned the post to become a fellow at the institute where he completed journalism. He also worked as a reporter in TV9 News and many other media. He is known for the campaign across the nation called "Stop Acid Attacks" - a campaign to raise voices against acid violence. Currently he is in a live-in relationship with acid victim Lakshmi. They have decided not to get married as people who come at their marriage ceremony may give comments on bride’s looks. Both their families give full support to the couple as well.

 

A debate on the issue of internet censorship started in parliament and social media, soon after he and Aseem started 'Save Your Voice’. They both conducted a Freedom fast at Jantar mantar in 2012, but got hospitalized.
