Alka Kaushal is a noted actress of Hindi television, known for portraying negative roles. Yet she has accepted a few positive roles like Swarangini, where he played a conservative and traditional grandmother. Though she is an accomplished Marathi film actress and producer, she has also excelled as an actress through Hindi soaps - Kumkum – Ek Pyara Sa Bandhan and Qubool Hai. One of the top rated vamps of Hindi soaps, now she prefers a makeover and has started accepting positive roles. Noted television actor Varun Badola is her brother, and popular singer cum actress Rajeshwari Sachdev is her sister-in-law. Alka is married to TV producer and director, Ravi G Kaushal. They own a production house - Mangalam Arts and they produce shows.

She was born in Delhi on 2 September 1969 into a family with artistic background. She is the elder daughter of well-known stage artist Vishwa Mohan S. Badola and his wife Susheela Badola. Her younger brother Varun Badola is already an established television actor and her sister, Kalindi is a radio jockey on Radio Mirchi. Alka is also a theater artist, who has been a part of National School of Drama Repertory at Delhi before she moved to Mumbai.

She started her television career in the early 2000s. Ramesh Sippy's Gathaand marked her television debut and Prratima and Kammal are her early soaps, followed by Faasle, 9 Malabar Hill, Sansar, Kartavya etc. Qubool Hai, Swaragini - Jodein Rishton Ke Sur, Sarojini, Hamari Sister Didi etc are some of her recent shows. She has also made noted performances for Bollywood films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Queen. She is also actively associated with theater and does shows regularly at big cities like Indore, Bhopal etc. The actress once confused that she loved vamp roles than positive ones, though now she is experimenting with positive roles too at present.
