Ajit Saini Biography

Ajit Saini was a highly acclaimed writer and journalist from Punjab, who lived during the period 1922–2007. An officer in Indian National Army, he was a close lieutenant of great Indian leader Subhas Chandra Bose. Ajit was also associated with Arzi Hukumat-e-Azad Hind, apart from his literal career. His famous anthology collections of poems include - Ek Manas ki Jaat, Jai Hind, Aurat Faltu Nahin, Mitti Di Pukar, Wadhiya Tea-set, Adhura Shahkar and Tutade Rishte. As a journalist he was associated with Punjabi daily "Ajit”, where he served as its managing editor and columnist. He was quite a popular figure in Punjab as a columnist and is noted for his contributions as a freedom fighter

 

Ajit Saini was born in 1922 in Punjab. His professional career began as a military officer with British Indian Army in the 1930s. He joined as on the rank of lieutenant. He fought against Japanese army in the Malayan campaign and it was during that period when he was deeply influenced by Capt. Mohan Singh, an Indian military officer best known for his role in organising and leading the First Indian National Army. He too joined Indian National Army as a part of freedom struggle movement, thus coming into contact with Subhas Chandra Bose. He also played the role of army's liaison officer for handling INA's communication with Japanese.

 

He worked as assistant editor of INA news magazine Azad Hind at Singapore. Later he worked with Punjabi daily "Ajit” as an editor. His illustrious career as a writer began after he joined Information and Broadcasting Department of Government of India in 1956, post-independence. He has been honoured with much recognition over the years by government of India. He passed away on December 10, 2007.
