Ajinkya Rahane Biography

Akinkya Rahane is an Indian international cricketer and right handed batsman who represents Indian in the international cricket matches. He also plays for the Rajasthan Royals team in the IPL matches and is one of the top order batsmen.

 

He was born on 5th June 1988 in Dombivli in Maharashtra in a Marathi family. His father’s name is Madhukar Rahane and his mother’s name is Sujata Rahane. He had no passion for cricket during his younger years and he was enrolled in a local cricket camp by his father just for the sake of fitness. However, his talents in the game took him to heights very soon and he started climbing up the ranks and was selected for the Thane U 14 team when he was 11 years old.

 

In March 2007, he made his first class debut in the Ranji One Day Trophy in which he scored 61 runs leading to the victory of the team. He also became a part of the Indian U 19 team and played in the Challenger Series and Duleep Trophy for Blue and Green team and West Zone team.

 

He made his one day international debut on 3rd September 2011 against England and T20 international debut on 31t August 2011 against Sri Lanka. He played for Mumbai team in 2007 and for Mumbai Indians from 2008 to 2010 and Rajasthan Royals in 2011 in the Indian Premier League matches.

 

He has scored more than 5000 runs in the first class cricket with a top score of 265 not out. He took part in the Indian cricket test squad that toured Australia in 2011-12 but could not play any match. Even though he has shown remarkable performance in the domestic cricket and India-A cricket, he could not get a place in the test team when there are many other top order talented players.

 

He scored 54 off 47 balls against England on 6th September 2011 in the match held at The Rose Bowl at Southampton in England and 91 off 104 balls against England on 20th October 2011 in the match held at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali. Indian team lost in the first match and won in the second. He scored 61 off 39 balls against England in the Twenty20 match held on 31st August 2011 at Old Trafford in Manchester in England. These are considered to be his best moments.

 

He was shot into limelight after his wonderful 98 in the first match of IPL 2012 representing Rajasthan Royals against Kings XI Punjab and his wonderful performance continued in the matches against Royal Challengers Bangalore with 103 with 6 boundaries and against Delhi Daredevils with 84 off 63 balls. He is one of the eleven players who have scored more than 1000 runs in single Ranji Trophy season.
