Ajay Jadeja Biography

Ajay Jadeja is an Indian cricketer who took part in the Indian cricket team in 1990s. In his cricket career of nearly a decade, he has played nearly 200 one day matches and 15 test matches. He was accused in match fixing case and was banned for 5 years from playing first class cricket matches. However he was proved to be innocent and the ban was lifted as per the order of the court.

 

Ajay Jadeja was born on 1st February 1971 in Jamnagar in Gujarat. His full name is Ajaysinhji Daulatsinhji Jadeja. He belongs to a family that has its roots in cricket and he is a relative of K. S. Ranjitsinhji and K.S. Duleep Sinhji after whom Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy are named. His father’s name is Daulatsinghji P Jadeja and his mother’s name is Gyanba who is a Malayalee from the Allepey District of Kerala.

 

He married Aditi Jaitley, the daughter of the former Samata Party president Jaya Jaitley. The couple has two children namely Aiman and Aana and they live in South Delhi area. He is a devotee of the spiritual leader Radhanath Swami. Jadeja has also acted in a movie titled Khel in 2003 along with Sunil Shetty.

 

He is a right handed batsman. He entered domestic cricket in 1988 and made his ODI debut on 28th February 1992 against Sri Lanka. His test debut was 13th November 1992 against South Africa. He has scored more than 5000 runs in his ODI career and more than 8000 runs in first class cricket matches.

 

He was considered to be one of the best fielders of the Indian cricket team of his times. He blasted 45 out of 25 balls against Pakistan in the 1996 Cricket World Cup quarter finals and this is considered to be his best score. He holds the highest one day partnership for 4th and 5th wicket along with the cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin.

 

His best moment is when he took 3 wickets for 3 runs in single over against England in the match held at Sharjah. He served as the captain of the Indian cricket team for quite sometimes and has led in 13 one day matches. The Chinnaswamy Stadium at Bangalore is favorite cricket ground.

 

His achievements were overshadowed when he was caught in the match fixing issue. The five year ban collapsed his cricket career forever. Though the ban was lifted by the order of the Delhi High Court on 27th January 2003, he could not get into the national cricket team after that. He played his last one day cricket match on 3rd June 2000 against Pakistan and last test match on 26th February 2000 against South Africa. He works as the cricket commentator and the coach of Rajasthan cricket team.

 

He has shown his face in some of the movies like Khel in 2003 and Pal Pal Dil Ke Saat in 2009. He worked as cricket anchor for Zee News during the 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup. He also contested in the celebrity dance show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa in its first season and appeared in the television show Comedy Circus.
