Adil Hussain Biography

Adil Hussain is an Indian stage, television and film actor who has appeared in many Bollywood movies. He has also worked in international film projects like The Reluctant Fundamentalist (2012) and Life of Pi (2012). He works both in commercial and parallel cinema and is a very talented theater artist. He studied at National School of Drama (1990–1993) and has also got an opportunity to study at Drama Studio London on a Charles Wallace India Trust Scholarship. Jasoos Vijay – marked his television debut in 2002 and Bengali movie, Iti Srikanta released in 2004 marked his big screen debut. After numerous bit roles, he came to limelight with Abhishek Chaubey's Ishqiya (2010). His first major role was in Saif Ali Khan-Kareena starrer Agent Vinod (2012).

 

Adil was born on 5 October 1963 in Goalpara, Assam. He was born as the youngest of seven children of a teacher. Since school days, he was active in stage plays and at the age of 18, he left home to study philosophy at B. Borooah College, Guwahati. He performed as a stage actor during his college days and was quite successful as a standup comedian also. He was also a member of mimicry group, the Bhaya Mama Group who imitated film stars in a comic way. He was successful as a standup comedian and worked so for long 6 years before he moved to Delhi to join National School of Drama. In between he also worked with a mobile theatre and also did some local cinema.

 

After studying at Drama Studio London, he returned to India in 1994. He was associated with theatre plays for a long time. In 2004, he made his film debut along with Soha Ali Khan in Bengali movie, Iti Srikanta where he played lead role. Kaminey, Ishqiya, Agent Vinod and English Winglish are his Bollywood appearances.
