Adi Irani Biography

Adi Irani is a Bollywood actor, known for supporting roles. He is also known as a film producer and director and has been associated with theatre works. He has also enacted numerous popular roles on small screen. Yahaaan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli, Sssh... Phir Koi Hai, Pradhanmantri, CID, Nagin, Urmila and Savitri are some of his popular television roles. He is the sibling of popular film maker Indra Kumar and the veteran actress Aruna Irani. He made a cameo appearance of Vicky Malhotra in the popular thriller of 1990’s Baazigar, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. In 2013, he made his directorial debut with Raqt – aside another actor Shiva Rindan.

He was born into a poor family of 8 siblings. His father Faredun Irani owned a drama troupe and his mother Saguna was an actress.  Most of his siblings have connections with Bollywood. The great actress Aruna Irani, the eldest of siblings was the first one to enter the industry, followed by Indra Kumar - a popular director of 1990s, who made outstanding movies like – Dil, Beta, Raja and Mann. Aruna Irani is the eldest of eight siblings (five brothers, three sisters). The children have been associated with drama since young. His brother Firoz Irani is the Gabbar Singh of Gujarati films. His brother Balraj is with Boney Kapoor’s production company and Ratan was once a producer-director too. His sister Chetna’s husband is a sound recordist. His sister Surekha is the only person who is not linked with film industry. Her husband works in bank. Adi shares a great relationship with his elder sister Aruna.

Adi started his film career in 1978 with the movie – Trishna. He has played character roles since then. Some of them are negative shaded roles also. Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha, Welcome, Beta, Suhaag, Raja, Anari, Dil, Badshah and Raju Chacha are some of his noted roles. He has worked with Indra Kumar in most of his movies.
