Adavi Baapiraju Biography 
Adavi Baapiraju was a multifaceted personality from Andhra Pradesh. He was a prolific writer of Telugu literature. He was equally popular as a painter and art director too. Gonaganna Reddy, Naradu, Ansumathi, Narayanarao and Himabindu are his celebrated works. He was known as a novelist, poet and playwright. He has published over 100 short stories and has also written many radio plays. He has also designed cover page of Viswanatha Satyanarayana's Kinerasani Patalu and Nanduri's Enkipatalu. He has directed a few Telugu movies and had a short stint as a journalist/editor too. He has been a role model for many art directors in films. He is a freedom fighter and has participated in Non-cooperation movement. His book “Tolakari” is based on his experiences in jail.
He was born at Saripalle village of Bhimavaram on October 8, 1895. Adavi was born in an artistic atmosphere. He completed his education from Bhimavaram, Narsapur and Rajamundry. He was interested in visiting historic ruins of Ajanta, Hampi etc and that’s how he got drawn towards the world of arts and paintings. Still now many of his famous paintings decorate the walls of Indian houses. He completed B.A. at the Rajahmundry Arts College. His principal Oswal Coulder was an artist who encouraged Adavi’s artistic talents. He learnt the art of painting from Pramod Kumar Chatterjee at the National College in Masulipatam.
He got arrested for the participation of Non-cooperation movement in 1921 and after his release, he took LLB from Madras. He started his career as a lawyer, though discontinued it to completely concentrate on to writings and world of art. He has served as the principal of Jateeya Kalasala of Machilipatnam for a brief period. In 1934 he entered film industry as an art director. Later he entered direction field and has directed movies like Druva Vijayam, Meerabahi and Anasuya.
