Abu Salim Biography

Abu Salim is a south Indian film actor, known for negative and supporting roles. He has won Mr. India title twice. He has acted in all south Indian language movies, apart from a few Bollywood movies. He celebrated the completion of his 150 movies in 2012 and Priyadarshan's Malamaal Weekly 2 will be his 151st movie. His wife Rizawana Fathima has also appeared in a few Malayalam movies like Chempada, Kurukshetra and The Train. He portrays the role of Gunda or sidekick of the main villain in most of his film roles. He is a police officer by profession, retired from service in 2012 after 33 long years. His first movie as main hero is to get released soon. The movie is titled Ezhu Desakkankkakale and it is directed by debutant director – Rasheed K. Moidu.

 

Abu Salim was born at Kalpatta in Wayanad. Rajan Paranja Kadha in 1978 marked his acting debut. A police officer by profession, he retired as sub-inspector.  This actor is also known for his physique and has won the title of Mr. India title twice in 1984 and 1992. He also received Mr Calicut Title in 1981, Mr Kerala in 1982 and Mr South India in 1983 titles. He is married to Ummuklusu and the couple has two children. His son is into the construction business and his daughter is married.

 

Even while maintaining good physique and working in Kerala police, Abu had a dream to join film industry. Even since school days, he was associated with arts and drama. However due to his physique, he was mostly seen in the role of rowdy in most of his movies. He handled a few of such roles in a comic way. He has acted with Dileep in numerous movies – Mayamohini and CID to name a few.
