Abhay Singh Chautala Biography

Abhay Singh Chautala is a senior political leader from the state of Haryana. He is a member of prominent ‘Chautala’ political family from Haryana associated with both state and national level politics. He is the grandson of former Deputy Prime Minister, Chaudhary Devi Lal. His father Om Prakash Chautala also remained a prominent politician who served as CM of the state of Haryana. Abhay currently represents Ellenabad constituency at Haryana Legislative Assembly and is a member of Indian National Lok Dal. His elder brother Ajay Singh Chautala is also a politician and former parliamentarian, and his nephew Dushyant Chautala is the political representative of Chautala family in the present-day generation belonging to Jannayak Janata Party.

 

Abhay Singh Chautala was born in the Valentine’s Day of 1963. Chautala of Sirsa is his hometown, and he belongs to a politically affluent family in Haryana. He completed his graduation from Haryana agricultural university, Hisar. He was into sports during his younger days and has played volley ball. He also represented his state in national level championships and won many medals too. After he joined active politics, he remained a promoter of sports and has been associated with many sports’ organizations of Haryana. In fact he has been the torch bearer of sports development in Haryana in the last few decades. He also served as the 10th President of Indian Olympic Association between 2012 and 2014.

 

As he belonged to a political party, he got involved with politics since school days. But officially he joined politics in the 1990s. He won state assembly elections for the first time in 2000 with record number of votes, and since then he remained a prominent political leader. He fulfilled his promise of opening an engineering college in his constituency soon after he became MLA. In 2005, he was elected the President of the Zila Parishad, Sirsa and still holding that position. He won 2009 by-elections and also 2009 state assembly elections.
