Abdul Nazer Mahdani, simply called Madani is a Muslim political leader from Kerala and founding leader of People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He founded PDP following the Babri Masjid demolition in 1992 and his party is primly focused on to create a "Muslim-Dalit-backward caste" alliance, a first one of this kind. Madani gained national attention following 2008 Bangalore serial blasts and he is the prime accused. He is also accused of 1998 Coimbatore bombings and both these cases have not been proved so far. Most recently in July 2014 he received bail, due to his poor health conditions and for his medical treatment. Madani has been remanded in Parappana Jail in Bangalore since August, 2010 and has been rejected the plea several times.

He was born in Sasthamkotta of Kollam district. Mahdani began delivering sermons at a local mosque at a very young age. He gained wide attention for his oratorical skills. He is a religious scholar too. He formed Islamic Seva Sangh in response to the Bhagalpur riots, and riots that happened in Kerala which was banned in 1992 following Babri Masjid demolition. He started People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the newly developed political organization in 1992. Through his party, he posted threat to both the Left and the Congress fronts in Kerala, as well as Muslim League. He lost a leg in a bomb blast while delivering speech and RSS is believed to be behind this mission.

He was accused of being involved in the infamous 1998 Coimbatore bombings and he had to spend long nine and half years in Coimbatore Central Prison, despite being handicapped. He was arrested following the interrogation of Ooma Babu, a prime accused of the bomb blast. He witnessed severe punishments from police. In 2006 Kerala assembly passed a unanimous resolution seeking the release of Abdul Nasser Mahdani, on humanitarian grounds and he got released in 2007 freeing him of all charges.

He publicly announced an alliance with the CPI (M) and also campaigned for them in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections. The rest two parties blamed CPI for their association with Mahdani and he was called a terrorist as well. When CPI (M) lost the elections, their association with Mahdani was stated as the prime reason for the failure of the party. In 2009 Maudany’s wife Soofiya was arrested for her alleged role in the 2005 Kalamasserry bus burning case. On 17th August, 2010, Maudany was arrested in connection with Bangalore blasts.
