Abbas Tyrewala Biography

Abbas Tyrewala is film story writer, screenwriter, lyricist, dialogue writer and director of Bollywood. He is most known for his powerful dialogues of Maqbool and Munna Bhai MBBS. He did the screenplay of Mein hoon na, with its director Farah Khan. He was the screen writer of Maqbool too. He debut as Bollywood director through blockbuster hit – Jaane tu ya jaane naa. Yet his next venture with A.R.Rehman’s music went unnoticed – Jhoota hi sahi. Now he has announced his third movie as a director – Mango that’s to be released in 2014.

 

As a story writer, he has written stories for movies like Ashoka, Chupke se, Darna Mana Hai, Mein hoon na, Vaada, Salaam namasthe, De taali, Mere brother ki dulhan and his own directorial debut -  – Jaane tu ya jaane naa. He has also written the story of a Telugu movie - Gudumba Shankar in the year 2004. He is a successful lyricist also who has penned beautiful lyrics to a few Bollywood movies.

 

As a lyricist, his best works include - Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar, Khushi, Leela, Paanch, Jaane Kya Tune Kahi and Jhoota hi sahi. His movies as screen writer include – Mein hoon na, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Maqbool, Jhoota hi sahi and Darna mana hai. He has also written dialogues of Darna mana hai, Ashoka, Munnabhai M.B.B.S and Welcome. Dialogues of Munna Bhai MBBS presented him Filmfare awards as well as Zee cine awards. He has won best screen writer award for Maqbool – Zee cine awards and GIFA.

 

Abbas Tyrewala was born and brought up in Mumbai. Abbas joined St. Xavier's College, Mumbai for graduation. During his college days, he used to participate in stage shows and used to write advertising jingles. He left college without completing his graduation and joined Ogilvy & Mather PR agency and later joined television production company Cinevista as creative consultant. But this time too, he left his job to concentrate fully on writing.

 

He entered film industry as a lyricist for the movie – Dil pe mat le yaar in the year 2000. Later Ashoka gave him the biggest break to the industry and he is one among the most successful names of Bollywood at present.
