A. Venkatesh (director) Biography

A. Venkatesh is a noted director of Tamil movies known for the movies - Dum (2003), Nilaave Vaa (1998), Chocolate (2001), Bhagavati (2002), Durai (2008), Singakutty (2008) etc. He has also played character and comic roles in a few movies since early 1990s. Azhagan Azhagi, Vadham, Ra-4, Sivappu, Naan Rajavaga Pogiren and Summa Nachunu Irukku are his noted appearances in the recent times. As a film director he is known for masala entertainers and action thrillers like 'Bhagavathi', 'Kuthu', 'Aei', 'Dhum' and 'Vaa Da'. He is also known for completing movies within a short time. Vasantha Balan’s Angadi Theru is known for his terrific acting in the role of a comedian.

 

Sandamarutham is his upcoming release which stars Sarath Kumar, Oviya and Meera Nandan in lead roles. Till now he has collaborated with Sarath Kumar in four movies. He has also announced one more project, Enakku Vaitha Nanbargal Ippadi with the newcomer Tejas and Venkatesh is to make a comic appearance in this movie. It’s a youth oriented movie which tells the story about a youngster who is caught between his friends and his love.

 

Venkatesh started his film career in the late 1980s in the role of an assistant director. He started off with director K. Rajeshwar in Nyaya Tharasu and Idhaya Thamarai. Later he worked with Pavithran in Vasanthakala Paravai and Suriyan. He also worked as associate director of Shankar for his major hits - Gentleman and Kadhalan. He was approached by producer G. K. Reddy during the shooting of Kathalan, to direct his next project. Mahaprabhu with Sarathkumar and Sukanya in lead roles marked his career beginning as an independent director in 1996.
