A. R. Srinivasan Biography 
Alangadu Ramamurthi Srinivasan, shortly called A. R. Srinivasan is a noted film, theater and television artist and a recipient of Tamil Nadu’s Kalaimamani Awards. Fondly known as ARS in the industry, he has been involved in theatre for nearly 50 years, has directed 17 plays and has nearly 90 films as an actor to his credit. He is also a recipient of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, for his contribution to theatre and films over 5 decades till now.
He was born in Chennai in on 8 April 1933 to A. S. Ramamurthi and A. R. Saraswathi. A qualified lawyer, Srinivasan has been a cricket player during his younger days and has worked with Philips for a short while after graduation. He was associated with theatre for a long time since younger days and one day he was spotted by Y. G. Parthasarathy during one such show. Thus he joined YGP’s theatre group - United Amateur Artistes (UAA), where he worked for nearly 5 decades.
Telugu movie Raman Parasuraman marked his debut as a film actor and since then he portrayed numerous character roles onscreen. He has played police officer and Christian priest multiple times onscreen. Later he moved towards television where he acted a few TV serials and presented many documentaries as well. Aval, broadcast on Vijay TV and Suryaputri on Kalaignar TV are his recent TV serials.
Y. G. Parthasarathy, shortly called YGP and Sivaji Ganesan are those two big names who played a significant role in the success of his professional career. In fact Sivaji Ganeshan has reprised many of his stage roles on celluloid. Kannan Vandan, the stage version of ‘Gouravam', and ‘Mezhugu Bommaigal' that was made into ‘Pilot Premnath' need a special note.
